Glass Stairs I

Regular price $1,200

Excited to finally share the first of many planned collaborations between Cole Moffatt at Steelton Glass and myself. Cole is an incredible stained glass maker and historical restoration specialist. He makes awesome stuff and we’ve known each other for a while, so a collaboration seemed natural! I’m beyond thrilled with how this turned out. This piece is  BEGGING to be placed in a south facing window with sunlight beaming through it!

This is one of several designs we bounced back and forth with. The idea of an ascent into the sun seemed really appealing for a stained glass window. One of the biggest challenges for this project was glass selection. After some trial and error, we selected a mix of textured colored glass from manufactures around the USA. An especially exciting striker glass from Bullseye Glass was used for the Fuchsia color so we could control the hue and value of the glass by firing it in the kiln.

After our glass was selected, the fabrication process began—a process that has changed very little since The Middle Ages. Each piece of glass was laid on top of our cartoon and cut by hand. Once the cutting process is done, all of the pieces are glazed together using lead came and solder. The panel is then cemented using an oil based compound—made in house—and then it’s cleaned and polished. This panel was built with the same care and attention to detail as the stained glass windows we’ve enjoyed for centuries.

NOTE: We are able to do custom installs in Ohio and are able to create a number of different fixtures for it - reach out today if you're interested in discussing!
