Painted for Alley Islands Fest 2023 in Columbus, OH. I love almost every kind of music out there (ALMOST: looking at you Top 40 Country), but any iteration of Jazz has always resonated with me the most. This mural has a mix of smooth and jagged elements, and Jazz as a genre is largely built around the contrast of the two. I also like the idea of music serving as a refuge from everyday life - I imagine climbing that ladder after a long day of dealing with the real world, escaping into the void and just zoning out with some good music. The mural is titled after - and loosely based on - the song “The Climb” by Flying Lotus and Thundercat: “Whim of my wonders, where I’ve been / Through all of this / All that I’m reminded of is that I just can’t quit”
